Project 3 - "Sense of place" presentation (5 Slides)
The shown set for
design project three is “Belmore Park” at Eddy Avenue, Pitt Street, Hay Street and
the railway line, Haymarket, in front of Central Railway Station.
The area is at the
centre of Sydney’s CBD, a lot of transportation , people flow and noise
pollution. The park design plan was done in 1993
and was never renew.
From ABS –
•There are a equal amount of female and male in the area.
•Since it is close to Haymarket and Chinatown there are
fair amount of Asian background population in the area.
•The age group are mostly 25-54, which is a age group
that is gradually aging and concern about their health.
•The region lived are mostly professional full time
workers which a lot do go for a run during lunch break and after work.
•There are also a lot of crime in the area – and in all
variety of crime.
As I mention “Belmore park” is close to
•Central railway
station
•Eddy avenue bus stops
•Tram line
•Capitol theatre
•Haymarket
Which is the centre
or a important pathway connection to transportation, shopping and offices.
During the weekend
there are groups of families that exercises in the park to stay fit and health.
During lunch time
there will be university students and office people relaxing themselves on the
grass.
There are only one water
resource and seats are facing the pathway due to the fact the council don’t
want homeless people to stay in the area and cause discomfort to the public.
There are request in
the 1993 park plan report to add equipment to the park, where it can be
children
and elder
friendly. In Taiwan there are pebble
healthy pathways for the public to walk on to boost their blood flow and
increase their health. Or in other countries there are outdoor gym sets to
encourage elderly to exercise in a open space.
Design Ideas
In Netherlands there
are chairs which are made from metal and covered in artificial grass are fun to
look at and sit in, we wish they incorporated more natural elements.
Exercise area/
furniture for all members in the public and bring more communication to stress
city families.
